I gained 10 kg… and it wasn’t just about food
A few years ago, I gained around 10 kilograms, and to be honest, I’m still carrying some of it.
For a while, I told myself it was because I was eating too much.
But looking back now, I know it was about much more than food.
At the time, I was in a relationship where I slowly stopped doing the things that made me feel like me. I was eating differently, moving differently and ignoring the little signals my body had been giving me for months.
After the relationship ended, the habits stayed.
Stress eating.
Boredom eating.
More sugar.
Less movement.
Less connection to myself.
It wasn’t one big decision that changed my health.
It was lots of little ones.
My body wasn’t failing me
At the same time, I was moving through perimenopause.
Like many women in their 40s, I noticed my body responding differently to food, stress and sleep.
I wasn’t just gaining weight.
I was experiencing:
- lower energy
- disrupted sleep
- more cravings
- increased bloating
- headaches
- changes in my mood
- feeling like my body wasn’t responding the way it used to
For years we’ve been told that weight gain is simply about eating less and moving more.
But the reality is far more complex.
Our hormones change.
Our stress levels change.
Our responsibilities increase.
Our sleep often suffers.
And when our nervous system spends too long in survival mode, healthy habits become much harder to maintain.
The biggest lesson I learned
The problem wasn’t that I needed another diet.
The problem was that I’d stopped listening to myself.
My body had been trying to tell me for months that something wasn’t right.
Instead of listening, I kept pushing through.
When I finally slowed down, I realised I didn’t need to punish myself.
I needed to support myself.
That’s why I created my 10-Day RESET
Not as a quick weight-loss plan.
Not as another restrictive diet.
But as a way to reconnect with my body.
To reduce decision fatigue.
To simplify healthy eating.
To notice how different foods affected my energy, sleep, cravings and mood.
Within days I noticed changes.
I felt lighter.
I had more energy.
My headaches settled.
My bloating reduced.
My sleep improved.
Most importantly, I felt like myself again.
Health is about more than the scales
These days, I never weigh myself. I don’t count calories.
Instead, I pay attention to things like:
- How much energy I have.
- How well I sleep.
- My mood.
- My digestion.
- How my body feels when I move.
- Whether I feel calm and connected to myself.
Those things tell me far more about my health than a number ever could.
If you’ve been feeling different lately…
If you’re in your 40s and wondering why your body suddenly feels different, you’re not imagining it.
Perimenopause changes many things, but it doesn’t mean you’re broken.
Sometimes your body simply needs a different kind of support than it did ten years ago.
And the most powerful place to begin isn’t by eating less.
It’s by slowing down long enough to listen.
If you’d like a simple place to start, you can download my free 10-Day RESET Meal Plan. It’s designed to help you simplify healthy eating, reduce decision fatigue and reconnect with habits that genuinely support your body.
